Born and raised in Collingwood Ontario, Austin McCarthy started at a young age on piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music Program. At the age of 13, his passion turned to the guitar. His guitar playing is strongly influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King and John Mayer, clearly marked by his own
At the age of 16 Austin began teaching guitar to both young and not so young students, which was mutually beneficial. "To teach is to learn twice." - Joseph Joubert
Over the years Austin has evolved into an exciting singer/songwriter and rhythm and lead guitarist. His venues have ranged from private functions, to clubs and festivals. Austin's effortless and unique song writing style evokes strong emotion in the listener. Austin's was the winner of the 2014 Collingwood Idol contest, which garnered the interest of the local press, radio and community attention. The first song ever written and recorded by Austin, "If You Look",
a bluesy, romantic acoustic number was entered into The CBC/Canada Trust "Rock Your Campus" contest where he placed in the final TOP 5 Nationwide! .
His website and Facebook fan page followers have increased dramatically since the release of his first on-line demo “If You Look”. For more music check out his Demo page... Having graduated high school with honours, Austin was recently accepted into the Finance Program at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University, giving him the opportunity to get his degree in Commerce while exploring the fabulous music scene in Montreal.
